A Wire Service Guild official said Saturday the union will recommend that members reject a United Press International request that employees take a temporary 35 percent pay cut before the sale of the financially struggling news service.

``Things are so desperate at this point, we don't think this will be enough either,' said Chris Dahl, secretary-treasurer of the guild. ``The situation is very bleak unless UPI can come up with a buyer very fast.'The news service has changed ownership three times in the past eight years and is now owned by Infotechnology Inc. Last week, Infotechnology announced a management shake-up and disclosed financial problems that could result in the sale of its businesses, including UPI and the Financial News Network.
