Soviet television reported that an airliner carrying more than 170 people crashed Wednesday in the Siberian city of Yakutsk, but reports varied on whether there were casualties.

Soviet television said Wednesday evening that 176 people were killed when the Aeroflot airliner crashed in Yakutsk, a city about 2,700 miles east of Moscow.An airport official, however, said no one was seriously injured when the Ilyushin-62 from Moscow overshot the runway and came to rest near a small lake.
