The grand opening of Dough Dogs took place at its new location, 245 W Kings Highway on Thursday, Aug. 21, with the city’s mayor, chamber of commerce and locals present for the event.
Dough Dogs previously was located at the Eden Mall but due to lack of patron traffic, owners Donna and Carlyle Rees relocated their business.
“Our worst day here was better than our best day there,” Carlyle Rees said.
Dough Dogs serves everything from homemade doughnuts to New York style hotdogs.
Doughnuts are made every morning, as well as the chili and cole slaw for the hotdogs.
“We are so happy they’re here,” Wayne Tuggle, mayor of Eden, said. “You guys made a great transition; let’s keep the business going.”
Tuggle complimented the hotdogs that the Rees’ make.
“They stack them higher than any other hot dog I’ve ever seen,” he said.
Jean Ann Wood, with the Eden Chamber of Commerce, said she hopes the community continues to support its local doughnut and hotdog shop.
“We hear a lot of times at the chamber, ‘we want a coffee shop, we want a doughnut shop, we want an ice cream shop,” Wood said. “Those shops open, they get a lot of support the first few months and then people forget about them.”
Wood encouraged everyone present at the grand opening to continue to patronize Dough Dogs.
Rees said the new location has been a benefit to the sales of his products.
“It’s more visible, we can do more things, we’ve already added a couple things and we’re going to add more in the future as soon as I figure out what people want,” Rees said.
Rees said his business will cater to what the public wants.
“We’re going to do more, we’re working on trying to do cake doughnuts,” he said. “We have to figure out what we have space for and what people want.”

“We greatly appreciate them [the public], we want more but it’s been good,” Rees said.
