EDEN — A local business that has been a staple in the community for 50 years was recognized by the Eden City Council on March 20 for its contribution to the betterment of the City of Eden.
Mitchell’s Discount Drug, located at 544 Morgan Road, has been family-owned and operated since 1968.
Business owner Russ Mitchell accepted a certificate recognizing the company’s longevity from Eden Mayor Neville Hall and Economic Development Director Mike Dougherty on behalf of the council.
“What many people do not know about Mitchell's Drug is how much Russ supports the community,” Dougherty said prior to the presentation. “He's been a longtime member of the Eden Chamber of Commerce and each year he sponsors the Leaksville Nighttime Christmas Parade Santa float and he's also a member of the National Federation of Independent Businesses.”
The drug store, which also housed a location on Washington Street until 2008, currently has 19 employees on staff.
Mitchell said the Eden community has been good to him and his family business over the years.
“First I thank the Lord for sending us here and I thank the town and people for being so good to us,” Mitchell said. “We really appreciate it.”
