AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Mark Aguirre scored 20 points and Joe Dumars 19 as the Detroit Pistons defeated the Washington Bullets 97-88 for their sixth straight victory.Isiah Thomas had 18 points and James Edwards added 14 for Detroit. Tom Hammonds led Washington with 18 points. The Pistons held NBA scoring leader Bernard King, who came into the game with a 31.9 average, to 11 points on 5-for-16 shooting.

Detroit outscored the Bullets 11-4 at the start of the third quarter to lead 65-48 after a 3-point goal by Thomas. But the Pistons didn't score again for 5:58, when Dumars broke the dry spell with a short hook shot.

Washington had an 11-point run while holding the Pistons scoreless to cut the lead to 65-59. Detroit scored the last five points of the quarter to take a 74-63 margin into the final quarter.

Detroit scored the first four points of the fourth quarter and maintained a double-figure lead for most of the period as the Bullets lost their fifth straight.
