GREENSBORO Rodney Dowe Westmoreland, Sr. (Spot) was born on September 8, 1955, in Greensboro, North Carolina to Guilford and Julia Brown Westmoreland. He departed this life on May 16, 2019. Rodney graduated from James B. Dudley High School in 1973 and went on to earn a bachelor of science from North Carolina A&T State University. Rodney began his career at AT&T and later retired from NC A&T State University, where he was a loyal Aggie. Rodney married his college sweetheart, Mary Faye Robinson. This union was blessed with three children, Rodney "Jay" Jr. (his wife, Rachel), Rachel, and Monique. Rodney mentored the youth in his community as a coach through his Nothing But Basic Fundamentals "NBBF" basketball organization. He also served on the Board of Directors of Guilford County Parks and Recreation, Board of Directors of Heart Disease and Stroke, and Greensboro City Sports Council. Special honors include Metro Conference 4 A Coach of the Year. Rodney joined New Zion Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He loved his church and was a faithful member where he served in many capacities, such as the Deacon Board, the W.D. Scholarship Committee, C.O.R.E. Group, Member of the W.F. Wright Male Chorus and the W.D. Johnson Choir. After retiring from NC A&T, Rodney and Mary relocated to Reno, NV to be with his grandkids, Rodney III (Tres), Rylan, and Rodney. Rodney leaves to cherish fond and loving memories his wife and kids along with his parents, Guilford and Julia Westmoreland, sisters Gail Cobb (James), Delanor Renee' Brooks, Judy Hogue (Cecil) and brother Mel Westmoreland, all of Greensboro, NC as well as Tanecia Armstrong, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and associates.
