REIDSVILLE A.B. Hooper, Jr., "Boyd," passed away on July 23, 2018, peacefully at his home. A memorial service will be held at a later date. A native of Reidsville, NC, a town that he loved to call home, Boyd went to Reidsville High School, where he had some of his fondest memories and his closest friends. Boyd starred as quarterback for the Golden Lions and loved to tell stories of his donning his #22 jersey under the lights at Kiker Stadium, graduating in 1953. He later attended Elon College. Boyd spent his professional career traveling the southeastern United States as a manufacturer's rep selling fine men's apparel, most notably Robert Talbott neckwear, to specialty men's stores. Boyd could move the room with his charming wit, impeccable sense of style, and firm handshake, a true southern gentleman he was. Boyd took great pride in the way he dressed and always wore his Robert Talbott ties, straw hats, and his white beard with style. Boyd loved his family, friends, golf and movies. Predeceased by his father Arch Boyd Hooper, mother Madge Kemp Hooper, brother Robert Hooper, son A.B. Hooper III; survived by his wife of 53 years, Ginny, his sons Reid, Alex (Paula), Billy (Holt), and John, brothers David (Emma Sue) Hooper, Walter Hooper and sister Judy Sizemore, and 15 grandchildren. The family would like to thank Hospice of Rockingham County, especially nurses Ron Harris and Amy Stone, chaplain Tripp Kimbrough, close family friend Bruce Saunders and all those who helped Boyd in his battle with pancreatic cancer. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of Rockingham County, 2150 NC Highway 65, Reidsville, NC 27320. Citty Funeral Home is assisting the Hooper family.
