WHITSETT, NC Mr. James Leroy Connell, Jr., age 83, of Whitsett, North Carolina, passed away Monday, September 10, 2018, at Alamance Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church, 1415 Neelley Road, Pleasant Garden, NC 27313. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Thursday at Glendale Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Glendale Springs, NC with Rev. Mike Barrett and Rev. Ricky Triplett officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Sheets family cemetery. Mr. Connell was born April 2, 1935 in Guilford County to James Leroy and Ruby Davis Connell. He was retired from Boren Brick, where he worked for twenty-five plus years. He was an active member of Pleasant Garden Baptist Church for many years and later a member of Glendale Springs Missionary Baptist Church. James loved antiques and collecting clocks and was a member of the National Guard. He was a loving husband and best friend to wife, Violet, a beloved father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by; his first wife, Julia Sharpe Connell, his parents, two sisters; Hazel Skau and Maxine Fields and a brother; Alvin Connell. Mr. Connell is survived by his wife, Violet Miller Connell of the home; three daughters, Janice Connell Riggs and husband, Ron of Greensboro, Teri Moore and husband Reggie of Whitsett and Tami Baggett of Greensboro; four sons, Jeremy Connell of Richmond, VA, Jaylan Connell and wife Sue of Tucson, AZ, Kevin Miller and wife Gina of Whitsett and Craig Miller and wife Ruth-Ann of Liberty; five grandchildren, Matthew Rickard, Christian Moore, Wells Baggett, Kaden Miller, Victoria Riggs and one great-grandchild; Evelyn Wernecke; and a sister, Beverly Leeper of Brookfield, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ebenezer Christian Children's Home, P.O.
