EDEN — A man was killed and a woman was injured in a shooting at the Eden Inn on Sunday night after a gunman fired a hail of bullets through a car window.

Tim Caesar Blanks, 37, of Bassett, Va., was arrested shortly before midnight and charged with first-degree murder in the death of 34-year-old Brandon James Rose, 34, of Reidsville, and attempted murder in the shooting of 38-year-old Meghann Rose McKinney, also of Reidsville.

Blanks was being held early Monday in the Henry County jail in Virginia awaiting extradition back to North Carolina.

An eyewitness said she watched a gunman fire two clips-worth of bullets into an occupied car outside the motel at 213 S. Van Buren Road at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police were called to the motel around 8:36 p.m. in reference to shots fired into a motor vehicle.

“I was at the motel visiting a friend and we were in their room, talking by the window when this dude comes up and knocks on a car window,’’ The witness, who asked not to be named, said, describing what she saw from the motel room she described as “real close to the car.’’

When passengers in the car failed to respond to the man’s knocks, “he pulled out a gun and emptied the clip, then he put another clip in and emptied it,’’ the witness stated, explaining the man fired a handgun through the car’s closed window at occupants of the driver and front passenger seats.

“Then we dropped to the floor,’’ she said.

As she ducked in the motel room at 213 S. Van Buren Road, The witness said she could smell gun smoke and heard a car speed away.

McKinney's current condition is unknown.
