GREENSBORO — Another crop of college graduates will enter the world this week after both of the city’s two public universities hold their commencement ceremonies.

First up is UNCG, which will have commencement Friday morning. A&T’s graduation will be held Saturday morning.

Both ceremonies will be held in the main arena of the Greensboro Coliseum. Both are free and open to the public.

If you can’t make it to commencement, both ceremonies will be live-streamed on their respective websites.

The December commencements are for students who completed their degrees after the summer session or the current fall semester.

UNCG

When: 10 a.m. Friday

Degrees to be awarded: Nearly 2,000 (1,550 bachelor’s, 330 master’s, 112 doctoral)

Speakers: Greensboro City Council member Justin Outling, a UNCG graduate and partner at a local law firm, will deliver the keynote address. Current MBA student Carrie Longnecker will be the student speaker.

Also: New Ph.D. recipients will get their degrees at a separate doctoral hooding ceremony. That event will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at UNCG Auditorium.

Did you know? UNCG’s December graduates include the first graduates of an online bachelor’s program in integrated professional studies. Also, the first cohort of registered nurses from Piedmont Community College will get their bachelor’s degrees in nursing.

When: 8:30 a.m. Saturday

Degrees to be awarded: About 960 (bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral)

Speaker: Actress Rutina Wesley, who stars in the OWN series “Queen Sugar.”
