GREENSBORO — A story coming Friday will discuss why police have stepped up patrols in neighborhoods along a three-quarter-mile stretch of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
The patrols are part of the MLK Initiative, a recent effort intended to reduce crime from East Lee Street to East Florida Street.
Operations will focus on reducing activity related to prostitution and alcohol and drug abuse near the neighborhoods of Ole Asheboro, Asheboro Square and Arlington Park.
Officials and community leaders are working together to decide what resources will work best in the community.
The program will continue into October, police said.
Residents of the communities are skeptical about how effective the initiative can be.
The News & Record will follow the initiative and provide periodic updates during the operation.
