GREENSBORO — Guilford College's capital campaign has hit its goal seven months early.

The college said today that the campaign, Advancing Excellence, has raised $60 million. The campaign's public phase started in October 2010 and will run through June 30, when Kent Chabotar is scheduled to step down as president of the college.

Among the money raised in this capital campaign is $16.2 million for student scholarships, $9.2 million for facilities and $2.2 million for faculty support.

The college hopes to raise another $15 million by December 2015. The money will go toward student scholarships, faculty and innovative programs.

The campaign is the second to wrap up during Chabotar's tenure. The $56.4 million Our Time in History campaign was completed in 2002, during his first year at Guilford.

The college said it has raised about $88 million in gifts during Chabotar's presidency.

Joseph M. Bryan Jr., a 1960 Guilford College graduate and chairman of the college's Board of Trustees, is the chairman of the campaign's steering committee.
