GREENSBORO — Political newcomer Tracy Lamothe has announced that she’ll run for Guilford County commissioner in District 3.

Lamothe, a Democrat, is the owner of Blue Spoon Cooking School, and a part-time consultant for accounting and financial reporting to a local church, according to information on her Facebook page. She has been a PTA leader and has volunteered with City Arts Drama Center.

Her issues include giving people more access to health care and working on alternative solutions to jail for nonviolent offenders.

“Our jails are filled with non violent criminals that need solutions to their lives and not jail time,” she wrote. “Drug addiction, mental illness and minor possessions are all solvable issues without jail.”

The seat is currently held by Republican Justin Conrad, who has filed for re-election.

The primary election will be May 8. The general election will be Nov. 6.
