FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Police in Fayetteville have issued warrants for a woman and her fiance in the death of an 18-month-old girl.

A statement issued Wednesday says police are looking for 20-year-old Vanessa Arianna Sanchez and 21-year-old Andrew Tyler Tomczak. The two are charged with first-degree murder and felonious child abuse resulting in serious Injury in connection with the death of Violet Cortez.

Sanchez is Violet's mother, but Police Lt. Todd Joyce said Tomczak is not the infant's father.

According to police, officers went to an apartment on Jan. 29 in response to a report of an unresponsive child.

WTVD in Durham reports that an autopsy showed the child died of a head injury due to multiple blunt force impact.

Detectives think Sanchez and Tomczak may have left the Fayetteville area.
