GREENSBORO — A judge this morning declared a mistrial in the case against a former Lindley Elementary School teacher who is accused of sexually abusing a child at the school.

The jury foreperson told the judge earlier today that the jury was hopelessly deadlocked at 11-1. A juror Jeremy Teer said it was 11-1.

"It seemed like we were pretty hung," Teer said. "We took tallies on what we thought was believable. There was a lot of holes in this case, too many holes."

Assistant Prosecutor Kelly Thompson said the deadlock was11-1 guilty. At 12:40 p.m. she said she had four jurors still in her office "disturbed" that one juror would not change his mind because his wife is a teacher and he told the other jurors "this is a witch hunt against teachers."

Randall “Randy” Lee Clawson faces four counts each of first-degree sexual offense with a child, sexual activity with a student by a teacher, indecent liberties with a child and three counts of first-degree kidnapping.

More details to come.
