HIGH POINT — Police have arrested a man in the drive-by shooting death of a woman who was found in the road in the 1400 block of Franklin Avenue on Thursday morning.
Moeez Khan Tahirkheli, 18, of High Point, is charged with first-degree murder in the killing of 61-year-old Brenda Ann Herbin, according to a police news release. He is in the Guilford County Jail in High Point without bail.
On Friday, police investigators learned that Herbin was shot around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday when associates of a High Point gang were riding in a vehicle in the area when they saw what they believed to be a vehicle belonging to a gang from a neighboring jurisdiction.
Based on this assumption, occupants of that vehicle fired at least three shots in the direction of the car and instead hit Herbin. She nor the vehicle that was targeted were involved in gang activity in any way and played no role in their victimization, police said.
