OAK RIDGE — One person died in a two-vehicle wreck in Guilford County Sunday afternoon.

Jody Edward Payne, 44, of Greensboro, was driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle south on N.C. 68 near the Historic Old Mill when he was struck and killed, according to the Highway Patrol.

Nolan Scott Cole, 21, of Oak Ridge, is charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle in Payne's death, the Highway Patrol said.

Payne had stopped to make a left turn into the Old Mill about 12:20 p.m. when he was struck by Cole, who was driving a GMC truck, the Highway Patrol said.

A 49-year-old Greensboro woman who was also on the Harley was taken to Moses Cone Hospital with serious injuries, law enforcement said.

The Highway Patrol said the wreck was caused by Cole failing to slow down to avoid the crash.
