The charm of early New England farm styling is evident in this 1 1/2-story home. The garage is hidden from view at this angle, adding an authentic air to the house plan.Design A-14, by architect William G. Chirgotis, will have four bedrooms and generous storage space when completed. The home may be finished in stages, however, and the upstairs can be left unfinished if budget or time requirements put too much pressure on the owner.
Traditional wood-rail fence and lamp post add to the home's traditional appeal.
The arched entrance porch is 19 feet long and 6 feet wide, and has convenient access to the vestibule and the garage. The garage may be a two-car garage or a one-car garage; if one car, the rear portion can be used as a covered porch.
In keeping with early American styling, the sheltered entrance foyer contributes to excellent interior traffic circulation. Of special interest in the living room is the triple small-paned windows and the log-burning brick-faced colonial fireplace with raised hearth. The step-saving food preparation center provides all the necessities and conveniences. The plan includes a built-in oven, range, refrigerator and a full complement of counter and storage space.
The country kitchen features a dining area with a built-in corner china cabinet, a large angular bay window and a service entrance with access to the outdoors.
Not conspicuous of its absence, there is no formal dining room. The country kitchen, with its length of 17'8', more than makes up for the omission.
A convenient stair nearby leads to the full basement, which provides plenty of space for storage and a recreation room. A two-bedroom sleeping area completes the first floor.
There is a family bath with a vanity and a recessed shower tub. The master bedroom has sliding glass doors that lead to a paved terrace.
On the second floor, or expansion area, there are two additional bedrooms, with unique dormer window seats and a full luxury bath that features a vanity and tiled shower stall. The upper level can be finished in whole or in part, making it an area well suited for the younger generation.
Design A-14 has a living room, country kitchen, four bedrooms, two baths and a vestibule, for 1,731 square feet on habitable space. There is a two-car garage but the plan is flexible and the rear of the garage may be converted into a covered porch. Sliding glass doors in the master bedroom lead to a paved terrace. The overall dimensions of 64'1' by 33' include the garage.
