The law firm of Brooks, Pierce, McLendon, Humphrey & Leonard, LLP has renewed and expanded its lease at 230 N. Elm St., Greensboro, in the Renaissance Plaza. A tenant in the building since 1990, Brooks Pierce recently signed a new 10-year lease for approximately 50,000 square feet of total space. Brooks Pierce's renovations and expansion in Renaissance Plaza will include creation of a new, state-of-the-art conference and dispute resolution center and new training facilities, as well as installation of the latest technologies.Denny's has partnered with Wiresnap, a wireless provider, to offer free wireless Internet access (WiFi) to its customers. Denny's has installed Wiresnap WiFi at the following locations: 3900 S. Holden Road, Greensboro, 632-1021, and 975 S. Main St., Kernersville, 996-1799.

The U.S. Lacrosse and its Youth Council will honor seven individuals from throughout the nation for their service to youth lacrosse at the fourth annual U.S. Lacrosse Youth Council Awards Breakfast to be held Jan. 15. Bill Hook of Greensboro will receive the Outstanding Contribution to the Game award. Since moving to Greensboro in 1996, Hook has been a leading force behind the growth of the sport in the Triad area. The Triad Youth Lacrosse Association, of which he has been the director of coaching for five years, has more than 450 participants. He has been active at the high school level, and is an assistant coach for Page High School. Hook started the Greensboro Lax Fest, one of the biggest youth tournaments in the Southeast.

Paula Jarett, a Greensboro Manor employee, and Linda Shawver, a Skeet Club Manor employee, were recently honored during the N.C. Assisted Living Association's annual fall conference in Greensboro. The two were among 10 finalists for the top caregiving award. The association gave the Caregiver of the Year award to Mary Price, a resident care supervisor at Carolina House of Elizabeth City.

The Guilford County Hotel/Motel Association held its annual holiday luncheon and annual Bed Making Contest at the Embassy Suites Hotel of Greensboro Dec. 10. Contestants were housekeeping staff from member hotels. Irma Benetiz of the Marriott Airport won first place with the fastest time of one minute and 18 seconds, Sandra Guinto of the Courtyard by Marriott won second place with a time of one minute and 33 seconds and Monica Brown of the Marriott Airport won third place with a time of one minute and 39 seconds. Prizes were $200, $100 and $50 respectively.

Total Wine & Company has been selected as Retailer of the Year by Wine Enthusiast magazine. The corporate office is in Potomac, Md., and there are two local stores on Battleground Avenue and High Point Road.

Marsha Glazman has joined the Painted Plate Catering and The Empire Room as sales/event coordinator.

Mary Kay independent sales director Jo Andras Parsons Proia of Greensboro recently earned the use of the Mary Kay Signature platinum Pontiac Grand Prix for her personal sales and team building. Proia began her Mary Kay career as an independent beauty consultant in 2002 and became an independent sales director in 2003.

Army National Guard Pvt. Steven P. Orrell II has graduated from the light-wheeled vehicle mechanic advanced individual training (AIT) course at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Orrell is the son of Sandra Smithey of Reidsville and Steven P. Orrell Sr. of Greensboro.

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Adam A. Gilles has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Michael and Bunny Gilles of Greensboro and he is a 1995 Grimsley High School graduate.

Air Force Airman Keena I. Farrar has graduated from the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration apprentice course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas. The airman is a 2003 graduate of Northeast Guilford High School.

Air Force 2nd Lt. William J. Dye has arrived for duty at Whiteman Air Force Base, Knob Noster, Mo. Dye is the son of A.J. Dye of Greensboro. The lieutenant is a 2000 Western Guilford High School graduate and a 2004 East Carolina University graduate.
