Virginia Norwood turns 100 years old on May 6. Born in Greensboro in 1918, she still has her roots firmly planted here.

Family: She was married to Gene Norwood for 47 years, raised three children and has been blessed with three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Fun facts: Still independent, she enjoys going to bargain sales and church services, overseeing the planting of her flowers and baking. Her chocolate sheet cake and chess squares are favorites among friends and family and are frequently requested. Her favorite dessert is coconut pie.

Norman Faircloth of High Point is 80.

Job: Taught 30 years at GTCC in computer graphics and design.

Family: Wife Judy, children Jennifer Smith and Brian Faircloth and five grandchildren.

Fun facts: He is a North Carolina Master Beekeeper. He and his wife Judy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last June.
