The final part of the Job Search Tool Box contains some of the most important tips for a successful job search.

Each one will be utilized at some point in the search. The last one listed, Accountability Partners, is often considered to be the first one that should be obtained. For without a coach or serious accountability partner, the quality and usability of all the other tools is in question. For example, a Search Strategy, the first tool mentioned in previous listings, will require seasoned, professional help in developing.

15. Hard question answers

There are certain questions that could be asked in a job interview that could be difficult to answer or cause some embarrassment. There should be answers developed that will provide a satisfactory response and relieve the stress on the interview.

16. Salary range

The subject of salary requirements will be asked at some point. A salary range should be established to ensure that you can function effectively on the lowest point and feel confident of your value at the higher point. The low point should be one where you will not lose money each day on the job based upon current expense obligations. This will require a pro-forma budget which is discussed with your spouse. In addition, salary surveys will need to be studied to determine the going rate for a position.

17. Networking associations

A job seeker needs many pairs of eyes to search for job leads in all corners of the community. These lookouts will need to be recruited and developed as helpers in getting access to the best jobs inside companies. Most contacts are developed through networking associations and social events.

18. Wardrobe

A job seeker needs to be prepared to present a professional image at all times when in the public. It is imperative that a candidate look the very best possible when interviewing for a position. Many seekers could use a clothier to help them with their choices.

19. Business cards

The business card is the best document to have for networking situations. It should be professional-looking and show the basic contact information for easy reference. Leave room on the back for notes to be added by the receiver. Have a ready supply at all times.

20. Weekly work schedule

In that the average job seeker spends only 5 hours a week in gainful job search, it behooves a seeker to have a full calendar of events scheduled at least a week in advance to stay active. Fill the work week with job search activities and leave weekends for other needs. Schedule a full day for rest from the search process.

21. Accountability partners

Having someone overseeing the seeker’s search activities is critical in staying active in the search. We lose that when we lose our jobs.

Look for someone that will be professional in keeping the seeker on track and courageous in calling out procrastination and excuses when the seeker loses momentum in the search. A coach is the best way to obtain this.

While the tool box contains 21 listed tools to conduct an effective search, they should not be considered too far out of reach for the average seeker. But, they will require a disciplined, planned search in order to methodically design and build them in a reasonable period of time.

It is estimated that this process could be accomplished within four weeks time with 60 hours of effort. In addition, 32 hours of networking meetings would be required in that period of time. That is roughly 90 hours in a month, which should have 160 hours of work with 40 hour weeks.
