The 13th annual Cystic Fibrosis Bowl USA will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Holiday Bowl, 1128 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro.
Sponsored by the Asheboro Jaycees and Holiday Bowl, the event raises money to support cystic fibrosis centers across the country, including two in North Carolina: one at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill and one at Duke Medical Center in Durham. A center at the Medical University of South Carolina at Charleston also will benefit. The Bowl USA is open to anyone who can recruit sponsors to pledge a penny a point for three games that the bowler bowls that day. Sponsor sheets with additional information about prizes and times are available at the bowling center.
Last year, Carolina bowlers raised about $55,000 to support cystic fibrosis research, treatment and education programs. On the national level, about $2.4 million was raised through Bowl USA.
