St. Patrick's Day is Sunday but many will probably start the party early.
Good news for retailers.
That's because in addition to a bar tab, over a quarter of American adults admit to spontaneous drunk purchases according to a study by Finder.com, a website that that helps consumers comparison shop.
The annual survey of about 2,000 participants revealed that American adults spent $39.4 billion on drunk purchases in the past 12 months, up from last year's $30.43 billion.
Men led the way for drunk shopping by spending an average of $870 compared to women who spent only $511.
The top three drunk purchases? Food, shoes and clothing and cigarettes.
