Four people were killed Saturday when three cars collided on a rural road in Rowan County.

Hailey Tomeka Helton, 20, and her son, Austin Riley Lambert, 1, of Stanfield, and James Colman Gheen, 72, and his wife Mildred Gheen, 74, both of Kannapolis, died on state road 2570 about 10 miles south of Salisbury, the state Highway Patrol said.The four were killed when the car in which Helton and Lambert were riding crossed the center line of the road and hit the vehicle in which the Gheens were riding, troopers said.

The Gheens' vehicle was then struck by a third vehicle.
