GREENSBORO — The Carolina Theatre got a $9,000 grant from the Lincoln Financial Foundation in support of the 11th annual Carolina Kids Club, an educational arts and entertainment program for children that will run for five weeks this summer at the historic downtown performing arts center.

Conceptualized as a modern take on the Carolina Theatre’s popular Circle K Club of the 1950s and ’60s, the Carolina Kids Club today features a family-friendly, animated Disney movie preceded by child-focused, live stage entertainment from Mad Science and interactive lobby fun from the Music Academy of NC’s musical petting zoo.

Lincoln Financial Foundation’s grant supports the Carolina Theatre’s efforts to expand access to the arts and enables the organization to offer scholarship tickets to summer camps from programs like the Salvation Army’s Boys & Girls Club, Black Child Development Institute, Guilford Child Development, Children’s Home Society of NC, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

“We know that by getting children into the Theatre at an early age, they’re more likely to engage with the performing arts throughout their lifetime,” said Brian Gray, Carolina Theatre’s executive director.

The 2019 Carolina Kids Club will run Wednesday mornings from July 10 through Aug. 7. It will feature the Disney movies "Coco," "Frozen", "Inside Out," "Moana," and "The Incredibles." Doors open at 9 a.m. with live entertainment at 9:30 a.m. followed by the movie.

Tickets are $5 and include a snack pack. Tickets can be purchased online, by phone at 336-333-2605, or in person noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the box office at 310 S. Greene St.
