Two Archdale men were elected when the Randolph County Economic Development Corp. held its sixth annual meeting Oct. 24.
Grover Ladd of Piedmont Natural Gas Co. in Archdale was voted in as vice president, while Archdale mayor Don Hancock was elected to a three-year term on the board of directors.Jerry W. Hartgrove of Carolina Power & Light Co. in Asheboro was elected chairman, the highest volunteer position with the Randolph County EDC.
Rounding out the slate of officers are Mac Pugh of Pugh Funeral Home, vice chairman; Walter C. Sprouse Jr., president; and Reid Pollard of Randolph Bank & Trust Co., secretary-treasurer.
Six new representatives were elected to the board of directors. In addition to Hancock, they were Dr. Larry Linker, president of Randolph Community College; Tom Meacham of Meacham Realty and Auction in Liberty; Clint Misenheimer of Duke Power Co. in Randleman; and Bob Shaffner of Prestige Fabricators in Asheboro. W. Frank Willis was elected to a newly created position on the board of directors.
Hartgrove replaces Bob McDuffie of Randolph Electric Membership Cooperative, who served as chairman of the Randolph County EDC for a year and a half. McDuffie's extra months occurred during the EDC's change in the fiscal year.
Retiring directors included Jim Culberson of First National Bank & Trust Co., William D. Hoover of First Southern Savings Bank, Jack C. Lail of Mid-State Plastics, Thomas N. Moose of Wachovia Bank & Trust Co., and McDuffie. McDuffie will remain on the EDC's executive committee as past chairman for one additional year.
Hartgrove is a native of Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington College (now the University of North Carolina at Wilmington). A 22-year employee of Carolina Power & Light, Hartgrove came to Randolph County in 1984.
He is the current chairman of the 1991 United Way campaign for Randolph County, a member of the Asheboro Rotary Club and a member of the countywide Solid Waste Committee. He was president of the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce in 1989 and has also served on the board of directors of the YMCA of Randolph/Asheboro. Hartgrove is a member of Central United Methodist Church.
He and his wife, Barbara, have two sons. Lyle is a student at East Carolina University, and Alan is a student in Asheboro City Schools. The Hartgroves live in Asheboro.
Hartgrove will serve as EDC chairman until June 30, 1991.
