Congratulations to the Rock the Runway 2016 winners: Robin Otis-Clayborne, Brian Atkins and Cheslie Kryst.

The annual fashion show challenges area designers to create a collection from items found in Goodwill stores. There is also an unconventional materials challenge, in which designers create a dress from newspaper.

Otis-Clayborne won the unconventional materials challenge with her A-lined, butterfly-inspired dress with peek-a-boo tulle that was beautiful and whimsical.

Inspired by styles around the world, Atkins especially impressed the judges, who selected his collection for the Judges Choice Award. The self-taught designer runs Studio B Designs on the side, and says: “We are all unique, defined by our cultures, yet we are all human.”

The audience voted Kryst, a Wake Forest University student, their favorite. She will graduate next May with dual degrees in law and business. Her line of feminine formalwear was inspired by haute couture designers Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad.
