RALEIGH — Greensboro legislator Pricey Harrison is leading a charge to make Duke Energy and its shareholders foot the bill for cleaning up the utility’s statewide coal ash problems.

Harrison, a member of the N.C. House of Representatives, will be the chief author of a bill she and fellow Democrats plan to introduce when the General Assembly reconvenes in May, requiring Duke Energy to close its “ash pits,” move the toxic waste to secure landfills and “not allow these costs to be passed on to ratepayers.”
